The Placenta is your baby's life support while she is
occupying your womb. It transfers nutrients and oxygen from you to your baby,
and waste products and carbon dioxide from your baby back through your blood
supply. 

Antibodies pass through the placenta to your baby to
protect your baby in the 9 months you carry her.

We are aware of the importance of the Placenta while baby
still inhabits the mother's uterus, but what purpose does it serve after those
wonderful 9 months?
